Authority collects over 5.4 billion Birr income
Addis Ababa, February 15, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Customs Authority (ECuA) said that it has collected over 5.4 billion Birr income over the past six months.

Public and International Relations Head with ECuA, Gebremedhin Gebreyohans told ENA that the income collocated during the reported period exceeds that of same period the previous year by 43.6 percent.

He said that the Authority has also seized more than 34.9 million Birr worth contrabands goods.

Cloths, various electronics equipment, food items and medicines are among the contraband goods seized in the reported time.

It has also collected 238.7 million Birr income form vehicles which entered the country free of tax duties and transferred to their parties, according to the acting head.

He attributed the success to the elongation of working hours in its Lagar and the Addis Ababa Bole control stations.

The Authority has provided free tax duties to various infrastructural and investment materials with a view to encouraging investment activities in the country.

Gebremedhin said that the Authority has plans to collect more than 12.8 billion Birr income from tax and non tax income titles in the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
