Addis Ababa, February 11, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma Woldegiorgis held talks with President of Packard Foundation International on Monday.
President Girma on the occasion urged the president to strengthen ongoing wide ranging development activities of the foundation in Ethiopia.
President Girma called on the foundation to engage in environmental development and protection as well as in power generating sectors.
The president on the occasion pleaded government’s commitment to support the foundation's effort, according to a Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ethiopian government is extensively working in the education and health sectors, which have already brought significant progress towards achieving the millennium development goals, he said.
Packard Foundation International President, Karol Larsow told journalists that the foundation would focus on backing development endeavors in Ethiopia.
The foundation is particularly desirous to work health sector in the country centering on youth and women.
He said the foundation had enabled to attain fruitful activities in Ethiopia.
The foundation is implementing a multi-million program in Ethiopia from 2007-2011 and is keen to support non-governmental organizations working in health and reproductive health sectors in the country.
The organization channeled 50 million USD to family planning and education sectors through 30 NGO's in Ethiopia since the beginning of its operation in Ethiopia in 1999 up to 2006.
