Harar, February 9, 2008 (Harar) - Heritage Conservation Office of Harari State said it has registered and collected over 3000 relics in Harar Town.Office representative, Ibrahim Abdulrahman told ENA on Friday that 340 of the relics are aged 1000 years .
The heritages were kept in three museums established within Jegol Wall, he said.
Ancient parchment, coins, stamps, weapons, jewelries and utensils, among others, were collected . The Jegol Wall, residences of the 19th century French poet, Arthur Rimbaud, Empress Mennen and Dejazmach Yilma are some of the registered heritages.
Though the community’s awareness is enhanced on the conservation of heritages, there are still remaining relics in the hands of the community, he said.
Hence, the representative said, members of the community should keep on handing over heritages to museums with a view to transferring them to the next generations.
