Local, foreign nationals to launch 94 billion Birr worth investment projects in Ethiopia: Agency
Addis Ababa, August 19, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Investment Agency (EIA) said it granted investment licenses to 1,773 local and foreign investors who appealed to invest in Ethiopia with an aggregate capital of 94 billion Birr during the previous Ethiopian fiscal year.

Agency Director General, Abi Woldemeskel said about 92 percent of the licensed-investors are foreign nationals.

Up on going fully operational, the investment projects are expected to create jobs for more than 654,000 persons, according to the director general.

Most of the investors show willingness to invest in agriculture, agro-industry, leather and leather products, textile, construction, catering and tourism, health, and education sectors, he said.

The majority of the licensed foreign investors are Chinese, Indian, and Turkish nationals, he added.
