President gives state banguet to Ethiopian squad to take part in Beijing Olympics
A/A, August 4, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma Woldegiorgis on Monday gave a farewell reception to the Ethiopian athletics squad partaking the 29th Beijing Olympics.

During the ceremony held at the National Palace, President Girma encouraged the participating athletes to stand out with scores and also with descipline, which has always been hallmarks of Ethiopian athletes.

He said the athletes shoulder huge responsibilities representing their nation in such an important event, and expressed confidence that they would bring glory as usual to their country.

Once again during the 29th Beijing Olympics, he said, the Ethiopian tricolor would be hoisted for a good number of victories.

Youth and Sports Minister Aster Mammo on her part said 30 athletes have been named for participation in the Beijing Olympics.

Athlete Haile said representing the participating athletes that the athletes have undergone the required preparations.

He commended the support made by the Ethiopian people and government for a successful participation of the athletes in the Olympics.

As representative of the squad, athlete Haile also received the Ethiopian flag from the president.
