Higher learning education applying new engineering education curriculum
Jimma, April 19, 2008 (Jimma) - Higher learning education institutions have begun applying new engineering education curriculum as of this academic year, the Ministry of Capacity Building said.

Universities Engineering Capacity Building Program Coordinator with the Ministry Tenagne Bayeh said the curriculum is designed in a bid to produce skilled labor to further ongoing development activities.

He was speaking to a three-day international workshop on engineering education offering launched in Jimma University on Friday.

Tenagne said the curriculum is being implemented in universities of Addis Ababa, Jimma, Bahir Dar and Mekelle.

The curriculum is formulated by taking into consideration, which has been Germany's universities experience.

The curriculum will also enable the universities to work closely with industries.

Machineries and equipment are being imported to strengthen laboratories and workshops of engineering faculties of the universities to render efficient training.

Jimma University Technology Faculty Dean, Tofek Jemal on his part said the workshop has been organized to share experiences among pertinent bodies in the sector, among others.

More than 100 participants including instructors from various local and international higher learning institutions and other pertinent are in attendance at the training.
