EAE expanding old Bole airport terminal with 72 mln Birr
Addis Ababa, April 15, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE) announced that the renovation work being carried out with 72 million Birr to modernize the old Bole airport terminal would be completed the coming December.

The Mekele and Bahirdar terminals will begin handling international flights in two months period.

Planing and market development Coordination Office head with the Enterprise, Nega Wondimu told ENA that the renovation of the old terminal at the Bole international airport was launched in 2007 with 72 million Birr budget allocated by the Ethiopian government.

The renovation work would enable the terminal to handle international flights by enhancing its civil and electromechanical capacity.

An American company has won the bid to carry out the electro mechanical work, the head said and added that massive efforts are being made to finalize the construction works before the deadline

The renovation work includes installation of four gangways in the old terminal, according to the head.

Nega further said that the upgrading work being carried out at the Mekelle-Alula Aba Nega and Bahirdar-Ginbot 20 Airports would be finalized in two months period.

Accordingly, the two airports would begin handling international flights after two months.

Meanwhile, construction of the new Jijiga airport has already been finalized, while the airport is expected to begin providing service over the next two months, the head said.
