Meles holds talks with Alexandria Pope Shinoda III
Addis Ababa, April 12, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met and held discussion with His Holiness Pope Shinoda III of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark on Saturday at his office.

The Pop during the discussion mentioned that the long-standing religious ties between Egypt and Ethiopia dates back to 16 centuries.

The Pope expressed his commitment to further scale up the historical relation of the countries.

Expressing his contentment over the visit of Pope Shinoda III, Prime Minister Meles said the Ethiopian government would play its role to deepen the relation of the two sisterly countries.

The Coptic Church of Alexandria used to send Patriarchs to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church until 1951 E.C when the first Ethiopian patriarch was appointed.
