Speaker leaves for Cape Town to attend 118th IPU Assembly
Addis Ababa, April 11, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, Ambassador Teshome Toga has left for Cape Town, South Africa to attend the 118th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly due to be held from 13 to 18 April, 2008.

Similarly, a nine member delegation led by Speaker of the House of Federation, Degefe Bula will leave for South Africa on the coming Saturday.

Ambassador Teshome, who is executive member of IPU, left earlier to attend a meeting that will convene before the opening of the 118th IPU assembly, the office of the HPR told ENA in a statement.

The assembly is expected tp hear reports of its committees and hold discussions on various matters.

Ethiopia's request of hosting the 120th IPU Assembly will get final decision at the meeting.

General debate on the political, economic and social situation in the world, the role of parliaments in striking a balance between national security, human security and individual freedoms, as well as issues of migrant workers, human trafficking, xenophobia and human rights are among the agendas of the assembly.
