Development projects undertaken through safety net program
Addis Ababa, April 9, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Various development projects are being executed in South Wollo Zone of Amhara at a cost over 216 million Birr through safety net program, said the zonal food security program and disaster prevention office.

Office Head Haile Belay told ENA that the development projects being undertaken in 21 woredas would benefit 800 farmers.

More than half of the total participants in the program are females, he said. Over 26,000 tons of grains were also made available.

Environmental conservation, water harvesting, development of springs, construction of roads, health and education institutions, among others are some of the development activities being undertaken under the program.

The program which has been launched since three months ago would last a year.
