Addis Ababa, April 7, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The Addis Ababa University (AAU) announced that activities are underway to draw experience from various countries towards building Ethiopia's capacity in architecture and urban planning fields.

Ethiopian hosted an international architectural conference.

Zegeye Cherenet, an instructor at the AAU Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, told ENA that discussions were held on school designs in the conference that brought architectures from various countries together.

Students drawn from participant countries would conduct studies on school designs, Zegeye said, while the outcomes of the studies will be discussed on the international architects' congress due to be held in Italy next June.

The international congress will attract more than 10,000 architectures from various countries, he said.

The conference, which was recently held in Addis Ababa, is believed to play role in facilitating ways through which Ethiopian students of architecture would involve in the international study and research system.

Moreover, the conference was an opportunity to draw lessons Ethiopia needs to build it's capacity in architecture and urban planning fields.

Architects and students of higher learning institutions in Germany, Israel, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy and Greek attended the weeklong architectural conference held in Addis Ababa.

The International and Ethiopian Associations of Architects and the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at the AAU organized the conference.
