National conference on implementation of reporting obligation on human rights to be held soon
Addis Ababa, September 29, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - A national conference on the “Implementation of Reporting Obligations under International Human Rights Instruments Ratified by Ethiopia” would be held on October 1st and 2nd, 2007 in Addis Ababa at the United Nations Conference Center , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In a statement it sent to ENA on Saturday the ministry said the conference would bring together representatives of the relevant federal and regional governmental bodies, members of the House of People’s Representatives and House of Federation, as well as judiciary, the civil society and members of the international community.

The conference is expected to deliberate on problems faced by Ethiopia in complying fully with its reporting obligations and adopt recommendations for sustained reporting by Ethiopia, the statement said.

Presentations on international, regional, and national systems of human rights protection will be made at the conference, the statement added.

The conference is organized by the ministry in collaboration with the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and with the technical assistance of the Regional Office of the United Nations Office of the High Commission for Human Rights.
