Ethiopian millennium celebrated in Toronto, Ottawa
Addis Ababa, September 27, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The new Ethiopian millennium was warmly celebrated in Toronto and Ottawa Cities, Canada at the presence of compatriots, persons from Ethiopian origin, and other invited guests, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The ministry told Ethiopian News Agency that the Ethiopian Embassy in Canada and the Ethiopian Millennium Celebration Coordinating Committee in that country organized the events.

It is a time to vow to join hands toward the overall development of Ethiopia; the statement quoted the Ethiopian embassy representative in Toronto, Abdurahim Mohamed as saying.

Chairperson of the united Ethiopian committees, a union of nine Ethiopian communities in Canada, Omar Havo said the Ethiopian government is exerting relentless efforts to develop the nation mare than ever before and such efforts need to be backed by citizens and persons from Ethiopian origin living abroad.

Advisor of the Ethiopian Embassy in Ottawa, Birtukan Ayano at the celebration in Ottawa stressed need for Ethiopians in Diaspora to invest their knowledge and resources on at home.

Ethiopian cultural songs and a photographic exhibition colored the event, it said.
