House standing committee discusses 2 bills
Addis Ababa, October 24, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Infrastructure Affairs Standing Committee of the federal parliament discussed here on Wednesday a bill providing for the establishment of governmental Housing Agency and proclamation for dissolving the federal towns planning institute.

It was pointed out during the discussion that that the Agency for Rental Houses was mandated to administer state owned houses, whose rent is over 100 Birr.

According to the new proclamation, the Agency would be organized anew.

The bill states that that Agency's name would also be changed from the Agency for the Administration of Rental Houses to "Governmental Housing Agency."

The bill clearly states the duties and responsibilities of the Agency.

The Agency would be accountable to the Ministry of Work and Urban Development

The Committee also discussed the bill for revoking the proclamation establishing the federal urban planning institute.

The bills are expected to be tabled for the House of Peoples’ Representatives, shortly.
