Addis Ababa, October 24, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Housing Development Office of the Addis Ababa City Caretaker Administration has set plan to construct over 40,000 condominium houses at a cost of 2.2 billion Birr during the current Ethiopian budget year.Planning and documentation service head with the office, Shimeles Alemayehu told ENA on Tuesday that 341 hectares of land is required for the construction of 40,000 condominium houses.
The office has been constructing 65,378 houses since 2005 , the head said, while construction of over 32,300 houses has so far been finalized.
According to the head, over 1.8 million birr has so far been spent for construction of the houses.
Addressing shortage of residential units, creating job opportunities, strengthening the construction sector in the country are among missions of the office.
Shimeles said some 15 billion birr is required to construct 200,000 condominium houses in the coming five years.
