Council urges muslim religious leaders to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS
Addis Ababa, October 22, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council urged that Mosque imams and ulamas the responsibility to teach and coordinate Muslim community to help them prevent from HIV/ AIDS.

Council's aid and development section head, Haji Teshale Kero said Islamic teaching coordinators in mosques have duties and responsibility to raise awareness of Muslims community on the epidemic.

He was speaking to a consultation workshop, which attracts the participation of Mosque imams and ulamas across the nation, on utilization of antiretroviral drugs that opened here on Monday.

Religious leaders should teach the youth about the cause and negative impact of the virus, he said.

Ethiopian Muslim Development Agency in collaboration with John Hopkins University organized the workshop.
