EIIPD finalizes final round seminar
Addis Ababa, October 18, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian International Institute for Peace and Development (EIIPD) finalized the third round seminar on civics and voters education here on Thursday.

Opening the seminar, President of the EIIPD professor Kinfe Abraham said the objectives of the seminars are to contribute to the democratization process underway in the country through awareness creation on principles and values of democracy, tolerance, human and democratic rights, among others.

The seminar would also help target groups acquire basic knowledge about the Ethiopian constitution, he said.

The seminar is a part of the series of seminars, which will run for eleven months, with more sessions in the capital cities of the regions of Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and Southern Ethiopia Peoples’ States.

The seminars are funded by Civic and Voters Education Association, a coalition for 19 civic associations and humanitarian organizations that was established in 2006.

Fifty participants drawn from the administrative and service offices of the sub-cities of Addis Ababa attended the final round seminar.

The EIIPD is an autonomous capacity building, research and think-tank institution. It was established in 1996 with a view to fostering peace and development in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

It also promotes Ethiopia’s bilateral and multilateral relations. Further it prepares seminars, workshops, conferences, training programs and symposium on topical issues.
