Konare urges parties concerned to take required steps to ensure successful implementation of CPA
Addis Ababa, October 18, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission is following with concern the recent development regarding the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in particular the decision by the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity, African Union (AU) said.

The commissioner, Alpha Oumar Konare, is following developments particularly the decision by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity, the statement sent to ENA on Wednesday said.

The chairperson of the Commission urged the parties to the CPA to take all steps required to address the outstanding issues and ensure the successful implementation of the CPA in order to promote a lasting peace in the Sudan.

The statement quoted the commissioner, Alpha Omar Konare as expressing satisfaction over the efforts being made by the parties.
