Addis Ababa, October 12, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The renowned historian and researcher Professor Paul B. Henze said the Eritrean president Isayas has turned up his status from statesman to despot and wrecker in the last 14 years. In a feature article posted on Aigaforum website Professor Henze said after 1991 Isayas was believed to be a statesman but he has been changed to war provocator and undemocratic leader.
Isayas was dreaming to make Yemen the leading country in the horn of Africa and to create firm relationship with US government but he failed to manage it, the prof. said.
The Eritrea's conflict with the Sudan, Yemen, Djibouti and later with Ethiopia has shown the very nature of the Eritrean President, he said and added he is chasing international and private organizations working in the country instead of letting them for the people of Eritrea.
Professor Henze said the Eritrean government is moving to destabilize Ethiopia by mobilizing its clique in and out side Ethiopia like the self-styled Oromo National Liberation Front (ONLF).
Isayas is creating mayhem in the region and misusing its national resource for destruction to back the Union of Islamist Courts in Somalia against the interest of the African Union and international organizations, he said.
He said Isayas is putting his former colleague behinds bars, leading Eritrea where there is no democratic election, constitution and justice in the last 14 years.
Professor Henze has been a Resident Consultant at RAND's Washington office since 1982, works on projects related to Africa and other parts of the world.
He had a 30-year career in government and government-related organizations and has published numerous articles in newspapers and journals as well as scholarly reports.
