Axum, October 5, 2007 (Axum) - Some 134 Eritreans fled to Ethiopia via Egela front opposing the anti-democratic regime of the incumbent dictatorial Eritrean government, security sources said.Colonel Berehe Adhanom told ENA on Friday that a number of Eritreans including, students, farmers, civil servants, businesspersons, soldiers, entered into Ethiopia in Sep 2007.
Among the expatriates, Yasin Abdu and Mengeste'ab Girmay said they decided to leave their country opposing the Eritrean government's act of forcefully recruiting soldiers to back the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) in Somalia.
Another expatriate, Mohamed Yasin, who is military officer in the Eritrean defense force, the Eritrean soldiers are suffering from shortage of food, lack of harmony and unity.
More than 1,435 Eritreans, who entered into Ethiopia through the Mereb and Egela fronts, are sheltered in refugee comps.
