Chancellor Dr. Merkel, after the discussions, transplanted tree seedlings at the premise of the national palace in connection with the Ethiopian millennium celebration.

The Chancellor also visited a center established in Yeka-sub city of the Addis Ababa city to protect, rehabilitate and re-unify female street children with their family.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi at the national palace threw a luncheon in honor of Chancellor Dr. Merkel.

Chancellor Merkel also met and held discussions with the current Chairperson of the African Union, Ghanaian President John Kufor and Chairman of the African Union Commission, Professor Alpha Omar Konare.
