According to a statement issued by ANDM, the anniversary is special as it is marked at the beginning of the third Ethiopian Millennium during which a commitment is expressed to bring about a renaissance of the country.

The statement said the period is divided into two phases of which the 11-year armed struggle against the Derg covers the first phase.

It said the second phase covers the past 16 years, in which ANDM struggled to speed up development, build democracy and maintain peace in particular in Amhara State.

The statement said major economic, social and political changes were registered in the state during the reported period.

ANDM called on scholars, investors and the people of Amhara to contribute share in the efforts to reduce poverty.

The day would be a time when the people of Amhara reaffirm commitments to further strengthen the on-going peace, development and democratization process across the nation.
