Addis Ababa, December 27, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The House of Peoples Representatives approved the appointment of three executives of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) in its third regular session held here on Thursday. It has also endorsed two bills ratifying the bilateral trade agreements signed between Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia and Yemen.
The House approved the appointment of Tesfaye Mengesha as NEBE Head, Rahel Tadesse and Ermias Assefa as Deputy Head after the endorsement of the appointment by the Board with a majority vote.
The Board appointed the three officials by taking into account that their impartiality, their good ethics and have no criminal record and good human relations, it was pointed during the discussion of the House.
It was also indicated that Tesfaye has rich experience in election due to his long years service in NEBE holding various posts while Rahel was a teacher in Kokebe Tsibah School.
Ermias was a teacher in Menelik the II School and the Metropolitan Teachers Association Deputy President.
The House approved the appointment with 268 votes, 97 objections and two abstentions.
The House also endorsed the trade agreement signed between Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea saying it would enable to commence trade between the two countries.
It also endorsed a bill ratifying the Ethio-Yemen bilateral trade agreement, which was expired.
The agreement is believed to have a significant contribution for the enhancement of the trade ties between the two countries, according to a briefing given by Trade and Industry Affairs Standing Committee with the House.
