Addis Ababa, December 26, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The erection of the ‘Red Terror’ Victims’ Monument, which is to be built at ‘Meskel Square’ in Addis Ababa City, will be launched on 27 Dec. 2007, the Association for the Erection of Martyrs’ Memorial Monument announced.Association board chairman, Dagnachew Kassa and Deputy Manager of the Varnero Construction Company, Adolfo Varnero signed an accord on Wednesday to enable the latter erect the martyrs’ monument within nine months.
Dagnachew said on the occasion the launch of the erection of the martyrs’ monument (27 Dec. 2007) would have a special place in the history of the nation.
He said over 9.4 million Birr would be used for the erection of the monument to be erected on 810 sq. meter area of land. The stated sum was secured during the previous telethon held for the same cause.
The monument, which comprises a building meant to rest the body of the martyrs, a library, a museum, and other service rooms, would be erected in such a way that it would magnify the beauty of the city.
Adolfo Varnero said on his part his company is honored to erect the historical monument. Hence, the company would do everything possible to erect the monument as per the schedule.
The M.H. Engineering, a private business company that carried out design of the martyrs’ monument for free, will undertake the consultancy and monitoring services during the erection of monument.
