Addis Ababa, December 26, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopian and persons from Ethiopian origin residing in Toronto, Canada colorfully celebrated the Nations, Nationalities and People’s Day on 22 Dec. 2007, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.It said participants of the celebration condemn the ‘HR 2003 Bill’ and would do their level best against the endorsement of the ill-fated bill.
In a statement it sent to ENA on Wednesday the Ministry said a committee comprising the various nations nationalities, and peoples of Ethiopia organized the event in Toronto, Canada.
Speaking at the occasion Ethiopian Ambassador to Canada, Getachew Hamussa said the day is when the nations, nationalities, and people of the country vowed to build the new Ethiopia.
He said many Ethiopian were sacrificed to realize the equality of the Ethiopian peoples as well as ensuring their unity in diversity.
Ambassador Getachew said the day is so special as it was celebrated in aftermath of vows toward the renaissance of the nation during the celebration of the new millennium and while registering rapid and successive economic growth.
He called up on all Ethiopians and friend of the country to fight against anti-peace elements that are trying to impede ongoing development and democratization process.
The ambassador urged Ethiopians and friends of the country to condemn any act against Ethiopia like HR 2003.
