Extension of high-voltage electric power line, construction of sub-station nearing completion
Addis Ababa, December 24, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - An electric power supply project launched in northern Ethiopia at a cost of 165.8 million Birr was nearing completion, the Ethiopian Electric Power Cooperation (EEPCo) said.

The on-going project includes extension of a 230-killovolt electric power line and a construction of an electric power sub-station, public relations section head with the cooperation, Sendeku Araya told ENA.

He said the extension of the 122-km ‘Gonder-Metema Electric Power Line’ and the sub-station, under construction in Sheheji town in North Gonder Zone of the Amhara State, aims supplying electric power services to Metema town and other rural towns in the region.

The project, which is launched after the agreement signed between the cooperation and its Sudanese counterpart to enable the former export of electric power to the Sudan, envisages forging an electric power network between the neighboring countries.

According to the head, the project would enable the towns in the region get access to around-the-clock electric power services as of Feb. 2008.
