Addis Ababa, December 4, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Leaders of three East African countries arrived here later on Tuesday to take part in the Great Lakes Summit. Other leaders are expected to arrive on Wednesday.The leaders, who arrived here to take part in the summit include, Presidents of Uganda and Burundi, Yoweri Museveni and Pierre Nkurunziza respectively, and also the newly appointed Prime Minster of Somalia, Nur Hassan Hussein.
Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mohammed Dirir welcomed the leaders upon their arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The summit is essentially a meeting of the Tripartite Plus heads of state, foreign ministers and defense ministers from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo.
The Tripartite Plus group was established by the United States to facilitate dialogue and build confidence among the four countries in the Great Lakes region. This meeting is expected to develop strategies and common security mechanisms to address various problems in the region.
