Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopian embassy in Italy held discussions with Ethiopians in Rome and its environs in connection with the upcoming Ethiopian millennium, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.In a statement it sent to the Ethiopian News Agency on Friday, the ministry said Ethiopian ambassador to Italy Girum Abay briefed the Ethiopian community on the various developmental projects designed for the millennium celebrations.
The celebration that start on September 11, 2007 through various project have lasting purposes than mere festivity, the statement quoted the ambassador as saying.
The celebration would be an opportunity to Ethiopian people and government to move forward in achieving the goals of the ongoing developmental and poverty reduction efforts as well as show their true images for the external world, Girum said
It would also be an opportunity where Ethiopians renew their commitment and join hands for the furthering of peace, democracy and good governance in a bid to get rid of poverty and reconstruct Ethiopian distorted images, he added.After holding constructive discussions on the project document, participants of the meeting have expressed commitment to actively participate in the newly established committees in a bid to achieve the goals of the millennium projects.
