Addisu says Ethiopia, China making efforts towards scaling up relation in agriculture sector
Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Addisu Legesse said Ethiopia and China are making efforts towards scaling up their relation in the agriculture sector.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Addisu Legesse held discussions with the delegation led by Chinese Minister of Agriculture, Sun Zhengcai.

Ethiopia and China are exerting utmost efforts towards replicating the excellent cooperation they are enjoying in different fields, to the agriculture sector, State Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abera Deresa ,who attended the discussion said.

The Chinese Minister during the discussion said that he had learnt that the agriculture policy put in place in Ethiopia is registering encouraging results, the State Minister said.

The agriculture policy Ethiopia has similarities with the agriculture policy put in place in China, Zhengcai added.

Ethiopia is the prime beneficiary of the assistance China is providing to African countries, in accordance with the pledge it made during the Beijing Conference.

China has launched efforts to establish 10 agriculture technology displaying centers in Africa, the Minister said and added that Ethiopia is among the 10 countries where the centers would be established.

Zhengcai during the discussion confirmed that the projects would be materialized soon.

Moreover, efforts are underway to disseminate Chinese agricultural technologies among Ethiopian farmers.

China during the discussion pledged to expand the assistance it is providing to the agriculture sector, Dr. Abera noted
