Ethiopia's Effort To Ensure Peace In Darfur, Somalia Manifests Its Commitment To Peace: US Congress
Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) -

US Congress Delegation said participation of Ethiopia in the efforts launched to maintain peace and stability in Darfur, Sudan and Somalia has manifested the country’s commitment to peace to the international community.

While conferring with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi here on Friday, the US Congress Delegation Head Sheila Jackson Lee said the support Ethiopia has provided to the recent Somalia's national reconciliation conference has also won her international acclaim.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on his part said Ethiopia is desirous to further consolidate its friendly relations with the US.

Meles said Ethiopia would also strive to continue to work together with the US government on various issues it is carrying out in East African region.

He said his country would further strengthen its efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in Africa and its environs along with peace loving forces.

Lee said after the talks that Ethiopia deserves appreciation for its outstanding contribution to ensure peace and stability in Africa.

She said Ethiopia's efforts to prevent conflict in Burundi and Liberia in particular by sending its peacekeeping missions in those countries is commendable.

Lee said she and Meles has discussed ways in which America would help Ethiopia in technology transfer in agricultural sector in particular.

She said they also discussed on investment opportunities that Americans could engage in Ethiopia.

The US government would strive to further enhance the relations between Ethiopians in the US and American government.

She said the US is ready to further consolidate its cooperation with Ethiopia in all sectors and maintain peace and security in the region.
