Authority to launch mobile calibration service
Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Quality and Standards Authority said it would soon launch a mobile calibration service in a bid to provide a facilitated door to door service for its customers in the new Ethiopian millennium

Public Relations and Education Service Head with the authority, Sisay Assefe told the Ethiopian News Agency on Friday that the new mobile calibration service would avoid the inconvenience and time wastage customers used to face while transporting their measurement equipments to the authority.

The vehicle for the mobile calibration laboratory has been imported, he said and added that it would also help prevent damage of equipments during transportation. The calibration laboratory is equipped with sufficient temperature, various rooms, and office and bed rooms. The laboratory would provide service as to the accuracy of mass, volume, pressure distance as well as electricity and other measurement equipments. The laboratory would provide service to agro-processing, textile, leather and leather products, metal engineering, as well as civil and military aviation industries. The service would be catered in all parts of the country where the service is needed, Sisay said, adding the service would be officially launched once the remaining installation works that are going to be done in cooperation with German experts is over.

The service is being implemented through the Engineering Capacity Building Program the authority in cooperation with the Ministry of Capacity Building and Germen Technical Cooperation is implementing with a five million Birr assistance secured from the later.
