Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Anano General Trading PLC said it is constructing an Animal Fattening and Meat Processing Project with 24.8 million Birr in Metehara Town, Oromia State.Company General Manager, Yirgalem Amara told Ethiopian News Agency that the project, whose 80 per cent of the construction, has already been completed, would commence production at the turn of the century.
So far, about 10.5 million Birr was spent on the project, he said.
The project is being constructed on 50 square meters of land in Metehara town, 180 km east of Addis, in Oriomia State.
The project will have vaccination rooms, a libratory, offices and other facilities, the manager said.
The project has employed 220 people and would create 160 jobs when it goes fully operational, he said.
Yirgalem said the project has capacity to fatten 2,000 cattle and lamb, 1,000 sheep and 3,000 goats per month.
The project envisages securing 30 million to 35 million USD annually, he said.
The project would be extended to other part of the country and would benefit the pastoralist community.
He commended the governmental office for the support it has extended all level to the realization of the project.
