Addis Ababa, August 31, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Indian embassy in Ethiopia on Thursday has launched activities to mark both the eve of Ethiopian Millennium and 60th independence anniversary of India. Ambassador of India to Ethiopia, Gurjit Singh on the occasion said the age long friendship and bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and India would be strengthened.
Ambassador Singh said India has been undertaking development activities in collaboration with Ethiopia.
He said India has plans to organize workshops with a view to providing training to those engaged in leather and textile sectors, among others.
Director-General of the Ethiopian Millennium festival National Council Secretariat, Seyoum Bereded on his part said India's plan to offer training in the stated sectors indicates the existing strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a press release issued by the embassy, the embassy has embarked on a series of activities to commemorate the two important events.
The events will commence with the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday on 2nd October, 2007, which this year has been adopted by the United Nations as the International Non-Violence Day.
The Indian Women Association, along with its associates, has also decided to organize a tree-planting campaign with the help of Millennium Celebration Committees of the Federal Government and the Addis Ababa City Caretaker Administration on 30th September, 2007.
The Millennium Gandhi Memorial Lecture will be delivered by the Patriarch of Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abune Paulos on 2nd October, 2007.
