Sector to execute development projects worth 100 million birr
Addis Ababa, August 14, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Aid and social development sector with the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council announced plan to undertake various development projects at a cost of over 100 million Birr in the budget year just began.

The budget for the execution of the projects would be obtained from various governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The sector called on the Muslim community to further speed up nation’s overall development by coordinating efforts with fellow Ethiopians.

Sector head with the council, Haji Teshale Kero told ENA on Tuesday that the projects would be in the areas of education, health, and agriculture, among others.

The council has designed over 100 projects enabling to prevent and control the spread of HIV/AIDS and enhance awareness of the Muslim community on the epidemic.

Activities on food security, environmental and irrigation development, sinking of water wells, providing support to needy are the other development projects which would be carried out in the reported period.

The sector has been working in collaboration with various organizations and other religious institutions to address various socio-economic problems of the society.

According to the head, Muslims in several parts of the country have become aware of undergoing Voluntary Counseling and HIV blood test before marriage.

He called on citizens to join hands for prosperity and development in the coming Ethiopian millennium.
