Dessie, August 14, 2007 (Dessie) - The Wuchale town municipality in South Wollo Zone of Amhara State said it has designated 15 hectares of land for foreign and local investors coming to the town in connection with the upcoming Ethiopian millennium.Municipality Manager, Eshetu Asfaw told the Ethiopian News Agency on Monday that the land is being prepared for investors keen on engaging in a variety of activities.
Natives of the area residing in the USA, Europe and other western countries have requested land for the construction of hotels, tourist centers and other investment projects in the town, which is home to several ancient monasteries.
Currently, private and government owned hotels and recreation centers, computer centers, and guesthouses, among others, are being constructed in the town.
In addition to the several infrastructure development activities being carried out by the government and the public at a cost of 2.5 million Birr, the town’s millennium committee is undertaking several development activities worth over 100,000 Birr.
Expansion of the town’s electric service, construction of roads and public latrines, and preparation of garbage dumping areas are among the infrastructure development activities.
Town residents are preparing enthusiastically for millenium celebrations, he said.
The Wuchale town is located three kilometers away from the place locally known as Yisma Nigus, where the historic treaty of Wuchale was signed between Ethiopia and Italy, after the latter's failed attempt to colonize Ethiopia.
